On Saturday, it was lunch at the Reading Terminal Market, the roast pork sandwich at DeNics. We walked around City Hall and down Walnut Street to Society Hill and Old City. These are great places to walk for those interested in architecture, both old and new (there’s some pretty awful 1960s infill). These are the oldest sections of town and have some wonderful alleys. We had cheesesteaks at Jim’s on South Street.
On Sunday, which was rainy as forecast, we went to the Art Museum, where we saw a lot of great things, and the Eastern State Penitentiary, which was fascinating. Dinner at Standard Tap in the Northern Liberties neighborhood: dark pub with much better food than most dark pubs.
Monday we went to the Mutter Museum, yes, before lunch, which was cheesesteak again, this time at By George in the Reading Terminal Market (they kicked Jim’s ass! -- more anon).
