I hadn’t seen The Philadelphia Story, part of the Cary Grant fest at BAM, in a very long time. I didn’t even remember how it ended! And come on, there was only one way it could end, but Jimmy Stewart’s singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” as he carries Kate Hepburn (nice gams!) after their late night/early morning swim had me going there for a second. Sublime silvery bright Hollywood, pity the print is practically shredded at the changeovers. In the picture above, that’s her husband-to-be on the left; Grant is the ex, wonderfully named “C.K. Dexter Haven.” I'm not sure what the hell is going on with his jacket, though....

Remember how that wise guy Walter Neff says in Double Indemnity, explaining his name, “two effes, like in Philadelphia. You know the story.” Love that. As I recall, the femme fatale says “What story?” a total tip off, right there, that she was trouble. Walter, you sap!
Another pop cult reference. Was Traci Lords, '80's porn star, named in honor of the Hepburn character in this film, Tracy Lords? Evidently, '00's porn star Sasha Gray was originally going to call herself "Anna Karina." JLG would have loved that.
BTW, my porn name? Skippy Steelesview.
