Snug as a sailor in Staten Island

Tipped by the Bluebird, we ventured over to Staten Island yesterday to visit Sailor’s Sung Harbor and the Botanic Garden. It was, for me, the first time I’ve ever been on the SI Ferry (!). I’d been though the Petit Jersey more than once, and I’d gone over the Narrows in a bus (the infamous Ella Orgy, but more about that in my memoirs, which you will have to pay for). We saw two green herons, a kingfisher, and a ruby-throated hummingbird, the first of the year for me, around this pond.

This is a differential grasshopper on a cattail.

Unknown. OHS describes as a daddy longlegs crossed with a fly.

Persimmon in the Chinese scholar's garden.

Watching the way the mouths on these carp work, it suddenly made sense to me why they have such a big role in Japanese porn.
