Salt Marsh Nature Center

Down at Avenue U and E 33rd St., the edge of Brooklyn, the sky gets big:
Crabs, small and smaller. Popeye there is a fiddler:
Hide the children. This is our largest wasp, the cicada killer:
Eastern tiger swallowtail on a butterfly bush:
Cabbage white on I-don't-know-what:

Looks a grand outing. I heart fiddler crabs.

I think that last plant, with the cabbage white on it, is orange milkweed, sayeth the Milkweed Maven.

Also interesting about all those ants on the plant, gathering nectar, I guess.

I didn't even notice them until you mentioned it.

I saw that wasp on 17th St. today in Windsor Terrace. It must have to work hard to keep that bullet of an abdomen in the air. I was hoping to get the beauty shot but it wasn't to be.
