Maundy, Maundy

This tree proably won't be there tomorrow. A long time ago this plot was planted with bulbs in memory of September 11th. A big yellow machine was rooting out the lifeforms down there under the Promenade today.

“The ~ softness of first bloom,” is an example found in Webster’s 3rd under “vernal.” While walking down Smith St this evening, I heard a raptor, looked up, and saw two kestrels slicing the air, then something larger (Cooper’s?) move in on them, breaking them apart. One of the kestrels sat on a TV antenna for a while and I watched until it flew off.

Spring, and Persian New Year. I miss cheap used book stores.

The Daffodil Project.

I'm not yet ready to say it all happened "a long time ago ..."

The Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation sure is, and they've got the tractors. The tree was knocked down sometime this morning.

Now, the plan for the new park calls for a lot of green, of course, amidst the rest. But frankly, with the rest, it all looks so ridiculously busy, trying to be every little niche of interest for everybody. As if, in a couple of generations, people will still be interested in the same things. The vision of Olmsted and Vaux here seems to be telling. They certainly fought similar political battles, but their gamble on the future sure seems bolder.

I wonder if you'd like Babbo's.
