17, 5, etc.

Seventeen hardy ramblers joined me for my West Coast of Brooklyn hike Saturday. I was pleasantly pleased by the turnout. It took us longer than I had planned, five hours total, but no matter. I brought them all out of Red Hook alive, although two wanted to eat their way through the ballfield vendors so I left them to it. Sunday I spent a while watching the bees; nothing invasive, just observation. Also very satisfying. As it happens, it's the fifth anniversary of my mother's death, so the meditative state of observing a bee hive was perfect.
