Are the days getting shorter already?
I walked along the Promenade to see the sunset. It can be quite dramatic with the bristling towers of Manhattan rising like a fantasy castle across the water. A relatively small building facing the East River was brilliantly light by reflection, each window burning bright. Looked like the sun was coming right through it, but the looming Chase Manhattan Bank blocked direct light. This meant that the sun, already quite low, streamed through Lower Manhattan, over the WTC hole, across Liberty Plaza, through the Chase Plaza and then bounced off something I couldn’t see to engorge this insignificant building with red-gold light, shining brightly, paradoxically opposite from the setting sun itself.
