I must be more European than the average American. American’s are blind faith optimists, and optimists, to paraphrase Susan Sontag, are people who deny the power of the past.
I’m a cynic, a foiled idealist. Still, beauty takes my heart away. “Beauty is the promise of happiness,” says Stendhal, and “There are as many styles of beauty as there are visions of happiness.” My man Teddy Vegas http://www.nyc.com/people/Teddyvegas/blog said that someone named Petra Nemcova is “arguably the world's most beautiful woman.” So, most curious, I Googled her. Turns out to be another “supermodel.” God, how boring. TeddyV being some distance from his adolescence, he’s definitely got an argument with me.
