Flowers sprung loose

I noticed this tree flowering on Friday; walked by Monday to take a couple of pictures.
On Baltic St. An ornamental front garden tree.
First sign of spring I've noticed. But note my gloved finger.
Anybody know the species? I thought something in the rose family, but that doesn't seem right after a cursory search. The flowers look like they should be pollinated by an insect, but there's not much flying now.

How lovely to see a blossom so early! I noticed some buds on the trees in down here a few weeks ago but I'm not sure how Snowmageddon is affecting them. Hope these beauties make it through the snow headed your way.

Beautiful! I haven't seen anything even remotely blossom-like yet. Guess it's Brooklyn's southern climate. Hope you find out what they are. Keep an eye on that black glove, though. Black gloves can be tricky.

I'm stumped. Rosaceaea is not out of the question. The fused corolla suggests otherwise.

Thanks, Xris. The trouble with garden trees is that there are so many potential exotics out there. This one seems to be flowering ridiculously early, and it's flowering before leaf-out, too. Which might be another clue.

Oops, extra "a" in Rosaceae! Urgh ...

There are many "Winter-flowering XXX" exotics hardy in the area. My first guesses didn't turn up any hits.

It could also be an anomalous specimen. This plant is next to a building, adjacent to a wall. I'm guessing this wall faces south, creating a favorable microclimate for early, anomalous, bloom.

Yes, it is south-facing. It's on Baltic between Clinton & Court.
