Morning

Feeling under the weather lately, I’ve gotten plenty of sleep. But this morning I woke with the thunderstorm at 5 a.m. and could not get back to sleep. I read from J. Christopher Herold’s biography of Madame de Stael for an hour.

“Physically, no one would seem more ill-cast in a romantic role than Edward Gibbon, but at twenty he had not yet grown grotesque. […] Nor had he acquired that legendary corpulence which on one occasion, when he had fallen on his knees to woe a lady, was to prevent him from rising up again, so that a servant had to be summoned to his aid."

Yesterday, I got my first Brooklyn mosquito bites of the year.

Yesterday was also the first day of the 2009 CSA season: black beans, oregano, kale, asparagus, burdock, & leeks.
