Such fabulous animals!
Queens Co. Fair? Darn it, you are like a Time Out magazine in a living, breathing human, but way smarter and more interesting than Time Out ever is.
I wish I knew about 1/2 the neat things you seem to find going on in the city before the fact, so I could pawn them off as my own freakin amazing discoveries.
The Fair was at the Queens Co. Farm Museum, which is located at the back of beyond, to the Little Neck LIRR station and then car service (long bus and subway rides back), but worth it. In addition to the raptors, I got some pickles and my nearest & dearest got to pet some goats.
I find TimeOut as crowded as the internets, all blurring together. 1,457 things to do in every issue!!! (And most of them for a demographic I no longer fit.) Yikes! In this case, I ran into a women I know from beekeeping adventures; she now works for the Farm Museum (which I didn't know about).
As an aside, the farm used to be part of the Creedmore lunatic asylum, where patients had "agricultural and horticultural therapy." Kinda makes me want to check myself in...
I was raised out in Creedmore country, but never visited the farm museum til we had a little one at that age for obligatory goat-petting. Great owl pic. Love dem owlies. This weekend, the raptorama continues at Prospect Park's Audubon Center for those who missed 'em or want a second look...
