Local flowers, local produce

This hibiscus is blooming gloriously on Clinton St. I didn’t know what it was, but as I was photographing it this afternoon, a passing francophone nanny asked me what it was called in English. No idea. What did you call it in French? Ah.

Today’s CSA share. Roughly clockwise from the strawberries: beets with greens (I had the greens for dinner, sauteed), mustard greens, lavendar, lettuce. There was another quart of strawberries in the fruit share, plus 1.5 pounds of nice little apples, and, um, six cherries. A taste, or a tease, of the future to come. I submitted this and two other shots to Brian Lehrer's Grub photopool.
