Out, damned Scooter

Conservatism is at heart the defense of privilege. Today’s privilege is the flouting of the law, which is only for the little people and the losers who can’t afford a good lawyer. When not issuing death threat fatwas against the judge in the matter, the defenders of the perjurer Lewis “Scooter” Libby demand that he not serve time for his crime. Too precious. How many times have we heard them thunder about the rule of law? (Cf. the racist cover word “amnesty” in the current migrant worker debate.) But when one of their own is convicted of two counts of perjury, one of obstruction of justice, and one of making false statements to federal investigators, crimes which go to the very heart of the integrity of our judicial system, well then, this fine public servant (LOL!!!) must be free, or pardoned for his wormtongued-service as a creature of Cheney. The contempt these people have for the system they claim to represent is mind-boggling. Edmund Burke, where art thou?
