E’s parents house in South Beach had two barn swallow nests under the eaves over the door to the back porch, so the narrow backyard was constantly zooming with swallows. And you could hear them twittering from inside the porch, which was more of a greenhouse with sofas. The neighbor on the left had two of those ridiculous plastic owls pigeons laugh at propped up on his side of the fence, so you can tell he wasn’t pleased with the birds. Another of her neighbors had a Hummer parked in front of his new and hideous SUV of a house, nicely tying two grotesqueries together. We passed another house that had an incredibly tall and wide stoop, weirdly out of scale, shooting up to the actual second floor. Preparing for the floods, said E.
